The Pillar of Identity is a crucial component of our LIFE Clubs mentorship. We believe that understanding one’s true identity is fundamental to a child’s development and future success. We help children explore fundamental questions like, “Who am I?”, “Why am I here?”, “What is my purpose?” through our lessons and activities.
What is Identity?
Identity is the distinct self-concept that is shaped by our thoughts about ourselves as well as the opinions of others. It is a characteristic of belonging that determines how an individual perceives, interacts with, and navigates through the world. It encompasses:
- How we view ourselves
- How we relate to others
- How we navigate experiences
- How we make life choices
What does God say about Us?
“Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you, and before you were born, I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.” (Jeremiah 1:5)
Based on this Scripture, we teach children that they are:
- Known by God
- Formed by God
- Consecrated (set apart) by God
- Appointed for a purpose by God
Challenges to Identity
In today’s world, children face many challenges to their identity such as negative self-perceptions, harmful messages from society, pressure to conform to worldly standards and so on. These challenges can lead to feelings of low self-esteem, depression and isolation when they feel like they don’t measure up resulting in poor academic performance and potential risky behaviors to alleviate the stress and pressure.
Our Approach: Identity in Christ
At LIFE Clubs we believe, that since God is the one who created us, He is the one who knows us best. God’s thoughts about us are what really matter. We help children discover their true identity in Christ. This involves understanding that they are created by God, valued by God and have been given a unique identity by God.
Gaining an Identity in Truth
“Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you, and before you were born, I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.” (Jeremiah 1:5)
As a child grows in their Christ-centered Identity, they reap the following benefits:
- Positive self-image
- Increased confidence
- Better resistance to peer pressure and harmful behaviors
- Improved academic performance
- Healthier relationships with family and peers
- Clear sense of purpose
